How to Wallpaper: Measure & Order with Confidence

Start Here: Planning Your Wallpaper Order

Ordering wallpaper can feel tricky: between wall dimensions, panel widths, and pattern repeats, it’s easy to miscalculate. This guide walks you through the process step-by-step so you can measure accurately, estimate the right quantity, and order with confidence.

If you’d rather not calculate it yourself, you can send us your wall measurements via WhatsApp and we’ll be happy to assist you.

How to Measure Your Walls for Wallpaper

Start by measuring the height and width of each wall you plan to wallpaper. Use a measuring tape and record measurements in centimeters.

Wall Height

Measure from the finished floor to the ceiling in centimeters.

  • You don’t need to include skirting boards or cornices
  • Measure the height in two or three different places
  • Use the largest measurement, as walls and ceilings are not always perfectly level

Wall Width

Measure the width of each wall you plan to cover, then add them together.

  • Measure the full wall, including windows and doors
  • Treat the wall as one complete rectangle for easier installation and pattern alignment
  • Add all wall widths to get your total width

Pro tip: Always round your measurements up, never down. We recommend adding around 10% extra to your total for trimming and installation adjustments.

How many rolls of wallpaper do I need

PAMPA wallpapers come in a fixed width of 62 cm, with the following roll length options: 125 cm · 250 cm · 305 cm · 500 cm · 1000 cm

To choose the correct roll length:

  1. Take your wall height
  2. Select the next roll length that is equal to or taller than your wall

This gives you enough material for:

  • trimming at the top and bottom
  • accurate installation
  • pattern alignment (if your design has a repeat)

Example:

Wall height = 272 cm → choose 305 cm rolls

How to measure for wallpaper with a repeat

Some designs include a pattern repeat, which means the design continues from one drop to the next.

When a repeat is present, a slightly taller roll may be required so the pattern aligns correctly during installation.

To allow for this:

  • Start with your full wall height
  • Add a little extra for alignment and trimming
  • Round up to the next available roll height

This ensures the design flows seamlessly across your wall.

If you’re unsure whether your chosen wallpaper has a repeat, our team will be happy to guide you.

Calculate Quantity (Number of Rolls or Panels)

Each roll covers 62 cm in width. To know how many rolls you need:

  1. Add together the width of all your walls
  2. Divide the total by 62 cm
  3. Round up to the nearest whole number

Example:

Total wall width = 690 cm
690 ÷ 62 = 11.13 → 12 rolls needed

If you are adding your recommended extra (around 10%), this may increase the final quantity slightly and is always a safe choice.

FAQs About Wallpaper Calculations

Yes, we strongly recommend ordering 10-15% extra to account for pattern matching, waste, and future repairs. Dye lots can vary between production runs.

Measure at multiple points along each wall and use the largest measurement. This ensures you have enough wallpaper to cover any irregularities.

Measure the full wall area including windows and doors, then subtract their areas. Add back 10cm around each opening for trimming allowance.

Each PAMPA roll is produced at a fixed width to ensure design continuity, accurate alignment, and a refined finish once installed.

via WhatsApp and we will confirm the correct number of rolls for you.

  • Standard Walls

Measure the full width and height of the wall. Double-check your measurements to ensure accuracy. Do not include skirting boards or coving.

  • Sloped Walls

Measure the wall at its tallest and widest points, ignoring any slopes. The mural will be created as a full rectangle or square, with the slanted part cut away during installation.

  • Multi-Sloped Walls

Measure the wall's longest section for both width and height. The mural, usually produced as a complete rectangle or square, will have the sloped portion cut away during installation.

  • Walls with windows, doors or other obstacles

Measure the entire width and height of the wall, treating it as one complete rectangle for easier installation and pattern alignment. Any obstructions will be removed during the installation of the wallpaper.

  • Multiple Walls

Before ordering, measure the width of each wall individually and add the dimensions together. If you are ordering a Wall Mural, bear in mind that it can be ordered as a single piece and does not need to be separated for each wall.

  • Staircases

Specify the highest and lowest points of the wall when measuring its height, as with other sloped walls. Apply the same method for measuring the width.
