The stillest piece in the series. Horizon is a single graded wash — deep charcoal along the top, loosening downward through soft horizontal banding into light. There is almost nothing to read, which is exactly its use: a wall that carries tone and weight and asks nothing of the room in front of it.

Nocturne is a series of seven abstract watercolour murals, painted wet-on-wet in a single warm charcoal ink. The seven share one palette and one hand; what changes is what the water does. Hung together they read as one body of work. Chosen alone, each holds a wall on its own. Drift, Veil, Reed, Horizon, Strata, Fold and Bloom — Horizon is the fourth.

It is the piece to reach for when a room is already full — behind a bed, along a living room wall, across a restaurant where the furniture and lighting should stay the subject. It also takes low, warm lighting better than any other design in the set.
