Nocturne Strata Wall Mural

Layer laid over layer, with the joins left showing. Strata runs in broken horizontal bands — some dense and wet, some dragged and dry — with pale ground breaking through where the brush lifted. It is the most worked piece in the series, and the one that most obviously keeps the record of how it was painted.

Nocturne is a series of seven abstract watercolour murals, painted wet-on-wet in a single warm charcoal ink. The seven share one palette and one hand; what changes is what the water does. Hung together they read as one body of work. Chosen alone, each holds a wall on its own. Drift, Veil, Reed, Horizon, Strata, Fold and Bloom — Strata is the fifth.

The horizontal movement widens a room, so it suits a living room wall, a bedroom that runs long and narrow, or a spa or reception where the surface should feel handmade rather than printed.
